Most kosher: you can save the bother of going all the way to Sal Meijer on Scheldestraat 45 (020/673-1313) and ask for a home delivery. But the effort will be worth it, though, once you have a bite of that 100% kosher sandwiches they are so famous for!

"The atmosphere is created by the people who come here", a cross section of Amsterdam's Jewish community. Famous for many years as a place to grab a decent snack. "Good sandwiches, no dairy products, lots of meat, soup and salads" and all prepared under the watchful eye of a rabbi.

Should the shortage of good pastrami on rye in Amsterdam get to you, head out to Amsterdam South, to Sal Meijer Scheldestraat 45 (tel. 020/673-1313; tram: 25), off Churchilllaan, a kosher sandwich shop where members of the city's Jewish community gather. The conversation and the sandwiches and other snacks are excellent. Sal's is open Sunday to Friday from 10am to 7:30pm, and delivers, depending on where you are and how much you want to order.
